A signed document does not prove implementation on its own
A company can hold a certificate while its system has never actually run — no internal audit, staff who've never read the procedure, nothing beyond the paper. So there are two questions worth asking: did the consultant test implementation during the readiness assessment? During certification, did the certification body assess the working system — not the documents alone? If the answer isn't clear, the certificate alone won't show you whether the system actually runs.
When choosing a consultant, ask one more thing: is the certification body they're proposing accredited by an accreditation body that participates in the Global ACI MRA (formerly IAF MLA)? Anyone can check that, from anywhere, at iafcertsearch.org.

Implementation timeline: minimum 6 months, with no fixed ceiling. Your system does have to actually operate — including an internal audit — before certification. The 6-month floor itself is our service policy, not an ISO-mandated period: it exists so the system runs for real and its results can be evaluated. How much faster or slower is set by your team's pace, not ours.
For context: one lost tender, one failed audit, or one serious incident typically costs more than this entire program — the certificate is the cheap part.
